Can you use your SSL certificate on 2 carts at once?
Can we use our SSL certificate that we bought at Godaddy on another shopping cart we also use sometimes…or do we have to “move it” to use. In other words can we use an SSL certificate on 2 shopping carts simultaneously? I know this may sound like a dumb question but they say the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. Thanks.
You can use it on as many things as you want, provided they all have the same common name as your SSL certificate. If your SSL certificate’s common name is ‘www.example.com’, then you can use it on anything that has ‘www.example.com’ for the host part. That would include:
https://www.example.com/cart1/foo
https://www.example.com/
https://www.example.com/cart2/index.html
https://www.example.com:8080/somestuff
And so on.
You could not use it on
https://example.com/
https://server.example.com/foo
https://nexus.www.example.com/
And so on.
Note that some certificates have more than one common name. For example, it’s not uncommon to have a certificate that will work for both ‘www.example.com’ and ‘example.com’.
